Cutting Board Care and Maintenance

HAND WASH the entire cutting board evenly with a warm damp cloth. Never submerge your cutting board in water or place in a dishwasher because water causes cutting boards to warp and crack. Avoid dish detergent as this strips the oil. Wipe the cutting board dry with a clean cloth, standing the board up on edge so that both the top and underside are fully exposed to air flow to dry.

OIL YOUR BOARD many times with a food safe mineral oil to help preserve the life of your board. Apply additional oil to visible dry spots or for any other necessary reasons. We recommend this as early as the first week you have received the cutting board. This important step helps repel food particles & liquids, as well as staining, cracking and warping. With a minimum amount of care and maintenance, you can lengthen the life of your board by many years.

STORE the cutting board on end to dry if it is damp. If your cutting board is already dry, store it flat in a dry area away from extreme hot or cold temperatures.

DISINFECTING your cutting board with vinegar or bleach is optional. Simply use a diluted mixture of chlorine bleach or vinegar solution that consists of 1 teaspoon of liquid chlorine bleach in one quart of water or a one to five dilution of vinegar. Do not soak or submerge the cutting board in water, for this will disrupt the moisture content and cause the rails to split or warp. Wood cutting boards are NOT dishwasher safe.

REMOVE STAINS with 2 tablespoons of baking soda, 1 tablespoon of salt and 3 tablespoons of hot water. Mix these ingredients together and scrub the entire cutting board surface and not sections. After washing clean with a damp cloth, reapply the food safe mineral oil.

WARPING may happen as wood contracts and expands. The best way to prevent this from happening is to keep your cutting board dry and frequently apply a food safe mineral oil. This cutting board is NOT dishwasher safe.
